5 Reasons Why You Need a Personal Trainer

5 Reasons why you need a personal trainer

I often find people have negative preconceived notions of personal training.

The coach is going to be yelling at me like a drill sergeant!

I don’t want all that attention on me for an hour!

I can’t afford to pay for 1-on-1 training!

But once you truly understand the benefits of the personalized attention you get, it’s easy to see the value behind having your own personal trainer.

Here are are our top five reasons that someone should hire a personal trainer!

1- Receive individualized programming

Every individual has different needs and goals when it comes to their health and fitness. A personal trainer can take into account a person’s training history, any injuries or movement issues, lifestyle habits and restrictions, and what their specific goals are to create a program that’s designed to be the most effective way to achieve those goals.

2- Accountability

There have been countless occasions where my clients have told me the only reason they are working out that day was because they had a session scheduled and didn’t want to cancel. Let’s be real, life can sometimes get in the way even when we have the best of intentions. Having a trainer who is literally waiting on you at the gym can be just enough of a drive to make you stick to your training routine. It is much easier to cancel on yourself, or tell yourself you’ll make it up later, when deep down you know that probably won’t happen. Having someone who is as invested in your progress as you are can be the difference between reaching your goals or not.

3- Proper movement technique/injury prevention

Often when I first sit down with a new client and I ask what has kept them out of the gym previously, they mention how they don’t want to injure themselves by doing exercises incorrectly. A personal trainer is right there next to you to teach you the movement patterns, make sure that you are moving correctly and staying safe, and moving efficiently so you get the most out of your workout.

4- Train harder than on your own

More often than not, your trainer is going to be able to push you harder than if you were working out by yourself. “Thanks for the extra push today!” is a comment I get often. Sometimes when we go to the gym, our minds are elsewhere thinking about work, relationships, the world, etc. Your trainer can help you focus on your workout and make sure you still workout hard, which probably would have been more difficult to do if you were on your own. A trainer can also give you extra motivation to not only move faster, but can push you to lift heavier weights that you

potentially thought you weren’t ready for.

5- A new confidant

When you work together with your personal trainer for a long enough time, you can develop a special relationship. They can be the person you vent to, get advice from, share the highs and lows of life with, etc. They can become your friend, confidant, even like a therapist! There are many reasons to hire a personal trainer. When you embark on a new health and fitness journey, you might say you want to lose weight, get stronger, lift heavier weights, but deep down you are looking to feel confident, secure, strong, empowered. You personal trainer can help you get there.
